Visual Basic - Doing well and gets even better!

Visual Basic has always been my most favorite programming language. Started application development with VB 6.0 way back 1996 and until now, I got even better in my jobs with VB.NET. Every month, I keep monitoring the Top Programming Index at the TIOBE Chart and I was happy that Visual Basic Group maintains and gets even better in its standing in the ranking of the most widely-used programming languages worldwide.
In the recent TIOBE Programming Community Index for October 2007, Visual Basic was up by two notches to no. 3 ranking next to C and Java which both maintained their second and top positions. You can view the chart at http://www.tiobe.com/tpci.htm.
The TIOBE Programming Community index gives an indication of the popularity of programming languages. The index is updated once a month. The ratings are based on the world-wide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors. The popular search engines Google, MSN, and Yahoo! are used to calculate the ratings. Observe that the TIOBE index is not about the best programming language or the language in which most lines of code have been written.
The index can be used to check whether your programming skills are still up to date or to make a strategic decision about what programming language should be adopted when starting to build a new software system. The definition of the TIOBE index can be found here.
Other programming languages that rise up fast in the chart are C#, Ruby, PL/SQL Group, D, COBOL, Lua and Fortran. PHP falls at no. 5 and FOXPRO was totally out of the top 20 and even gets surpassed by Pascal. Oh what a very bad news for FOXPRO developers. Chart also shows the consistency of Java for being the no. 1 programming language in the world according to TIOBE.
